Poenskop for the win

AHOY, MATEY! STOP REELING IN KELP AND START LANDING TREASURE! 🏴‍☠️🐟

Listen up, ye landlubbers and seasoned salts! The mighty Poenskop (Black Musselcracker) is the king of the PE coastline, but it won’t just jump in your boat or onto the rocks because you asked nicely. You’ve got to outsmart the beast!

Here is the Captain’s secret map to Poenskop glory in the Windy City:

1. WHERE THE TREASURE LIES 📍

Get yourself to the ‘working water’! Poenskop love the foam and the surge. Look for the rocky ledges at Skoenmakerskop, the wild white water at Cape Recife, or the deep gullies near Maitland’s. If it looks like a washing machine, the Cracker is probably in there looking for a snack!

2. THE BAIT BOUNTY

Poenskop have teeth like a prison warden—they want something crunchy.

• The Classics: Fresh red crab, armadillo (chiton), or the red bait and prawn combo.

• The Secret Weapon: FISHBITES! If the peckers are stripping your bait faster than a mutiny, add a strip of Fishbites (especially the Crab flavor) to your hook. It adds that scent trail that stays on the hook even when the small fry are biting. It’s the ‘bacon of the ocean’—nothing resists it!

3. GEAR UP OR SHIP OUT

Don’t bring a butter knife to a swordfight! You need:

• A heavy-duty rod (like the Assassin Beachmaster II or similar) to pull them out of the bricks.

• Strong traces—those rocks at the ‘Wild Side’ are sharper than a shark’s tooth!

REGULATION REMINDER: You only get one per day, and it must be at least 50cm. Don’t be a scallywag—if it’s small, let it go so it can grow into a monster!

STAY SALTY, TIGHT LINES, AND DON’T LET THE BIG ONE GET AWAY!
